listening/shouting is a performance-film made for The Baby Makers: Making History.
The project was a National Lottery Heritage Funded project in 2024, with Stroud’s Museum in the Park.
We listened to stories of birth, as told by elder women and women of the global majority in Stroud District. Out of this listening we made a performance response.
The Importance of listening/shouting
This project provokes conversation about the lived experience of birthing people, of pregnancy and loss, the stories that get lost or are not told. Bringing such private stories into public space is a much needed step in bringing the female body into valid presence as part of our social collective story telling.
The film can be available for screening at private or public events. Contact waas@thewaas.org if your space or venue is interested in hosting this film, talks and sessions on the topic of birth stories.
