The WAAS are delighted to announce that thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, in 2024 we are collecting birth stories and making new creative work about birth history for Stroud District.

Working with Museum in the Park, Stroud alongside our community partners Stroud Against Racism and Stroud Local History Societies, we will be holding workshops and events to explore and share stories of birth in the area from within living memory.

This under-represented area of historical archiving is full of potential for personal interest and social significance, from histories of adoption and fostering, to racism in the medical service; from queer parenting to the rising popularity of home birth and freebirthing in the District.
